Why This Book Stands Out

Unlike many dense pharmacology texts, this one is written with the nursing student in mind. Its patient-centred focus sets it apart: you learn to think like a nurse, not just a pharmacologist. The nursing process framework is woven throughout, reinforcing the clinical reasoning skills you'll use every day. Readers consistently note that the short, manageable chapters and organized layout make studying more efficient—especially when facing a packed nursing curriculum. Plus, the book is regularly updated to reflect the latest FDA-approved drug information and clinical guidelines.

Overview

Looking for a pharmacology textbook that makes sense in real-life clinical practice? Pharmacology: A Patient-Centred Nursing Process Approach delivers exactly that—a clear, clinically relevant guide designed to help you understand drug therapy through the lens of the nursing process. This book emphasizes safe, effective, patient-centred care, making it an essential resource for nursing students, educators, and practicing nurses alike.

Written by leading nursing educators Linda E. McCuistion, PhD, MSN, RN, and colleagues, this text integrates pharmacology with the nursing process, so you learn not just what drugs do, but how to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. Whether you're preparing for the NCLEX or seeking a reliable clinical reference, this book offers a practical framework for applying pharmacology in real-world settings.

Author Credentials

The authors bring decades of nursing education and clinical experience. Linda E. McCuistion, PhD, MSN, RN, is a well-known authority in nursing pharmacology. She has co-authored multiple editions of this text and is recognized for her student-friendly writing style. Kathleen Vuljoin DiMaggio, Mary B. Winton, and Jennifer J. Yeager—all PhD or MSN-prepared nurses—contribute their expertise in medical-surgical nursing, critical care, and education. Their collective experience ensures the content is both academically rigorous and clinically relevant.

How This Book Helps with NCLEX

The NCLEX-RN exam includes a significant number of pharmacology questions, and this textbook is designed to boost your confidence. Each chapter concludes with NCLEX-style review questions that mimic the format and difficulty of the actual exam. These questions require you to apply knowledge, not just memorize facts—critical for the next-generation NCLEX. Topics like drug interactions, contraindications, and patient education are covered thoroughly. Many students report that using this book as part of their study plan helped them feel prepared for pharmacology sections on the NCLEX.

Customer Insights

Nursing students and professionals have found this book to be a valuable resource. Many appreciate the concise, well-organized chapters that make studying less overwhelming. Others highlight the helpful charts and comparison tables, which simplify complex drug information. The book's condition upon delivery is often praised, with many noting it arrives in excellent shape even when used. A common sentiment is that the patient-centred approach helps bridge the gap between theory and practice.
