It is equally beneficial for professionals in the food industry, policy makers, and anyone curious about the origins of animal products. With its integrated social and ethical discussions, the book is also an excellent choice for courses in food ethics, environmental studies, and sustainable agriculture.

Biological Foundations

Delving deep into the biology of domestic animals, this section covers physiology, genetics, and reproduction. Readers will find detailed discussions on reproductive technologies, growth biology, and nutrient metabolism. The text clearly explains how selective breeding and modern biotechnologies (excluding genetically engineered organisms) enhance productivity and disease resistance. Nutrition’s role in animal health and product quality is also examined, offering a strong foundation for pre-veterinary and animal science students.

Global Perspectives

Animal science is far from uniform—it differs dramatically across regions because of climate, resources, and cultural traditions. This textbook takes a global view, comparing production systems in both developed and developing nations. It explores how local regulations, market demands, and environmental constraints influence animal agriculture. Understanding these regional variations allows readers to grasp the rich diversity of animal production methods and the interconnections of global food systems.

Social and Ethical Dimensions

Animal agriculture goes beyond science—it is intertwined with societal values. This section tackles social attitudes toward animal farming, ethical controversies surrounding intensive production, and rising consumer demand for sustainably and humanely raised animal products. By presenting multiple, peer-reviewed perspectives, the text fosters critical thinking and helps readers develop their own informed stances on these heated debates.

Industry Perspectives

Focusing on the business side of animal science, this section examines industry structure, supply chain management, and technology adoption in breeding, feeding, and health care. It offers insight into the economic drivers of the industry, such as market trends, international trade, and government policies. Real‑world case studies from beef, poultry, dairy, and swine sectors demonstrate how scientific concepts are put into practice.
