The Artist's Way at Work: Riding the Dragon – A 12-Week Program to Release Creative Energy and Excel at Business

$45.27

Feeling as though your career has hit a plateau? The Artist's Way at Work: Riding the Dragon delivers a transformative 12-week program designed to help you release your creative energy and excel in the business world. Co-authored by Mark Bryan, Julia Cameron (bestselling author of The Artist's Way), and Catherine A. Allen, this book adapts the proven principles of creativity to the professional environment. Through a structured series of tools, exercises, and reflective practices, you can learn to overcome creative blocks, embrace risk, and bring your most ambitious ideas to life at work.

Who Should Read This Book?

This book is tailored for professionals across all levels—from entrepreneurs and corporate managers to freelancers and artists working within organizations. If you've ever felt that your job suppresses your creativity, or you wish to inject more passion and innovation into your career, this program offers a clear path. It is especially beneficial for those who have already completed The Original Artist's Way and want to apply its principles to the business sphere. The exercises are designed for solo or group use, making it suitable for personal development or team-building workshops.

What Makes This 12-Week Program Unique?

Unlike typical business motivation books, The Artist's Way at Work merges creativity coaching with actionable business strategies. The program centres around the metaphor of 'riding the dragon'—learning to manage the fear and resistance that arise when pursuing innovation. Each week introduces fresh themes, such as reclaiming your sense of play, confronting core fears, and cultivating supportive creative networks. Daily morning pages and weekly artist dates (adapted from the original Artist's Way) help you tap into your intuition, while business-specific exercises tackle real-world challenges like decision-making, team collaboration, and branding.

Key Themes and Practices

The book is structured around several core principles: creative unblocking, risk-taking, authentic expression, and sustained momentum. You'll explore how to transition from a scarcity mindset to one of abundance, where creative solutions emerge naturally. Weekly chapters include Insights, Exercises, and Checks—a structured approach ensuring you apply the material to your actual work life. For instance, you might draft a new project proposal, redesign your workspace, or initiate a conversation with a colleague about a shared creative endeavor. The emphasis is on actionable steps that produce measurable change, not merely fleeting inspiration.

How to Get the Most Out of the Workbook

To fully benefit from the 12-week program, commit to daily practice. Start each week by reading the chapter, then complete the assigned exercises. Keep a journal (or use the space provided in the book) for morning pages—three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing—to clear your mind and surface hidden insights. Schedule weekly artist dates: solo outings that nurture your creative spirit. The book also includes guidance on forming a support group, which can amplify accountability and shared learning. Many readers have found that repeating the program deepens its impact over time.

Real-Life Impact and Reader Sentiment

Those who have engaged with The Artist's Way at Work often emphasize its ability to shift perspective from fear to possibility. Readers appreciate the balance between structure and freedom, noting that the weekly exercises gradually build confidence and clarity. Many report feeling more energized about their work, better equipped to handle setbacks, and more willing to pursue ambitious projects. While the program demands commitment, the consistent feedback is that the journey is well worth the effort—a sentiment echoed by users who return to the book year after year.

Why the Authors' Voices Matter

Julia Cameron is a world-renowned teacher of creativity, whose book The Artist's Way has sold millions of copies globally. Mark Bryan is an entrepreneur and creativity coach with a background in business, while Catherine A. Allen is a leadership expert specializing in organizational innovation. Together, they combine psychological insight with practical business wisdom, offering a holistic approach that balances inner work with outer results. Their collaborative expertise ensures that the program is both psychologically sound and professionally applicable.

Note: This book is a companion to, not a replacement for, professional business advice. Results vary; individual experiences depend on personal engagement and circumstances.
