Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Pocket Guide to Nutrition Assessment

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Pocket Guide to Nutrition Assessment

$89.99

What Makes This Pocket Guide a Must-Have for Practitioners?

This compact reference excels at condensing complex assessment protocols into a quick, accessible format. Many dietitians call it the “Bible” of the field because it spans everything from initial nutritional screening to in-depth anthropometric measurements. It brings together essential data—including reference ranges for biochemical markers, clinical sign interpretations, and methods for evaluating dietary intake—all in one streamlined resource.

The guide’s pocket-sized design is a deliberate feature: it slips easily into a lab coat, yet holds enough detail to replace bulkier textbooks. Users appreciate the trade-off between portability and depth; the sturdy binding and paper hold up to regular use. With its practical layout, you can swiftly locate information on energy requirements, body composition analysis, or medication-nutrient interactions, without sifting through hundreds of pages.

What Key Content Areas Does This Guide Cover?

  • Anthropometric Assessment: Techniques for measuring weight, height, BMI, waist circumference, and skinfold thickness, with age- and gender-specific norms.
  • Biochemical Assessment: Interpretation of lab values related to nutritional status, including serum proteins, electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Clinical Assessment: Physical exam findings such as signs of malnutrition, edema, and muscle wasting.
  • Dietary Assessment: Methods for collecting and analysing dietary intake—24-hour recalls, food frequency questionnaires, and diet histories.
  • Special Populations: Considerations for paediatrics, geriatrics, pregnancy, and chronic disease management.

Each section follows a consistent format, making cross-referencing straightforward in real-world scenarios. Glossaries of terms, abbreviations, and quick-reference tables help save valuable time during patient consultations.

How to Use This Guide in Your Daily Practice

Keep this pocket guide within easy reach during patient visits. Use it to verify normal lab values, calculate nutrient needs, or confirm the suitability of assessment tools for specific conditions. It is especially valuable for dietetic interns and new practitioners building their clinical decision-making skills.

Experienced professionals will appreciate it as a dependable refresher that ensures alignment with current Academy standards. Many dietitians consult it before documenting assessments or communicating with interdisciplinary teams. The guide is also an excellent study companion for the Canadian RD exam, condensing key concepts into a portable format.
